John 5a Do You Want to Be Made Well
Pastor Nelson
John 5:1-15
Loading the player...
Description
John 5:1-15 Today's lesson may seem a little confusing because it's going to be in multiple parts. At the beginning we will be discussing two verses from our weekly scripture verses: Matthew 5:16 and Galatians 2:20. These seem to tie in nicely to God's theme for today, "do you really want to made well?" and live for Christ? Joy and I got a few days off to go to the mountains in our little camper this week. (And we are going again next week for our anniversary - so no sermon next Sunday) It was a time of "total disconnect from the world" and a time of refreshment and quiet before the Lord. Sometimes when we get quiet, God really does speak to us (I pray you are experiencing that too)! It was good for me and hopefully today's teaching will be meaningful for you! As we talk about the lame man at the pool of Bethesda in John 5, God has shown me that the world and mankind is in the exact same position as that man. Some definitely want to be healed, others don't. That is a reality of life. I pray my message (through the power of the Holy Spirit) will be meaningful to you. As we study the Old Testament Scriptures first from 2 Chronicles 32:31 (and God withdrew from him) and then information from 2 Kings chapters 18,19, and 20 we see that sometimes God pulls away from His people as a test, so that WE can better understand our own hearts before Him. Hezekiah was definitely a godly man and a great King, yet he needed a "timeout" to reflect .... just like we do sometimes. This is not a milk or pablum sermon, so put on your big girl pants, and your big boy pants, and ask God what YOU need to learn form His Word today. 49min

Description
John 4:27-53 (Romans 10:9-10 is our weekly Bible verse - please meditate on this verse there is a lot there) A slight review of last week's sermon is necessary to start this week's study. Despite cultural differences Jesus is reaching out because there are people willing to hear God's truth. Place yourselves in the shoes of this woman that was talking to Jesus & suddenly saw a life in a new light. Would you have done the same thing? Life is not always just physical, sometimes the spiritual aspects need to supreme. So what is faith anyway? How is it obtained and developed? There are examples here to help us. Please meditate on the history and circumstances of the two people Jesus encountered in our Scripture reading today. What lessons will the Holy Spirit impress on you? 42min
John 4a Worship in Spirit & Truth

John 4:1-26

Description
John 4:1-26 What a wonderful truth we have to tell today. Jesus seeking out the Samaritan woman at the well, and teaching us what it means to worship God in spirit and truth. And then one of the biggest revelations in verse 26. I thank God that Jesus has no animosity or bias against those who have sinned or don't know how to reach out to God. He freely offers us forgiveness and "living waters" that we might not ever thirst again. But what does that mean? And the question comes up, where are we to worship, and how do we worship God? We all need to meet Jesus the Messiah. Today Jesus is clearly stating who He is, & that He has come so that we might learn how to worship God the Father in spirit and truth. 52min
John 3b Lesson from John the Baptist

John 3:22-36

Description
John 3:22-36 So many neat lessons to learn today. John the Baptist is such a good example for Christian ministries and individual Christians. But hopefully you won't get your head cut off for doing the right thing like he did! The primary focus of any ministry (or Christian) is to exalt Christ and point people toward Him. The spirit of competition or bitterness within ministries (or individuals) must be avoided at all cost. The fulfillment of any Christian's life comes easily & best by knowing the purpose with which you are to serve Jesus Christ & then completing that task as directed by the Holy Spirit. We all want to experience Matthew 25:21. By taking a closer look at what John the Baptist did, taught, and who he was will help all of us live our lives in a better way. 52min
John 3a Jesus & Nicodemus
Pastor Nelson
John 3:1-21

Description
John 3:1-21 This is one of my favorite chapters of the entire Bible. It needs to be clearly understood by every Christian. It also serves as an example to non-Christians what they must do to come into a "relationship" with God. In John 14:6 Jesus makes it very clear that no one comes to the Father except through Him, but how does this spiritual "new birth" take place? The simplest explanation of the gospel, or how to be saved, is clearly stated by Jesus himself in Mark 1:15 which says "repent and believe". There are many more lessons in this simple 21 versus. It is my prayer that you will be blessed and that the Holy Spirit will help you to continually learn how to explain YOUR relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit to others. 45min

Description
Ephesians 6:10-18 This is part two of how we are to know our enemy and fight the spiritual battles of this world. The Ephesians Scripture contains a lot of information, but I have tried to elaborate some practical things in our fight against evil and the devil. Spiritual warfare should be defensive and there are definitely some rules we should follow. We must remember that this is God's fight not ours even though we are involved in the middle of it. Knowing what Satan's primary purpose is and some of the tactics he employs will better equip us to face our 'day of evil'. At the end I will give you the 5R's of spiritual warfare which will help you get through your coming battles in better shape. 52min This sermon is also written out should you want a copy of it - just let me know.

Description
Because of an incident this last Sunday and Monday today's sermon is going to be completely different than usual. As Christ followers, we need to understand fully the 'hidden enemy' that so many people ignore & that we face every day. You probably already know this, but Satan is alive and well on planet Earth. He has probably already conquered (maybe) 90% of the world. As followers of Jesus Christ it is our DUTY to know and understand that Satan and the evil that is so prevalent in the world is not the winning force! Be encouraged! God is in control and in charge! We should not be fearful, nor neglect our God-given warrior skills to help combat and contain the enemy of Christ, every Christian, and every Church. This has been a difficult study crammed into a very short period of time. Satan does not want to be exposed for who he is and what he does. Therefore, in this two-part (maybe) study I will attempt to educate, encourage, reinforce, & challenge you in your fight against our enemy who is already a conquered foe of Jesus our Lord. I took the time to write down dozens and dozens of Scriptures for every comment made during this sermon. So if you would like one of those handouts please contact me so that you can do your own study of the individual Scriptures that formulate the body of this sermon. 57min

Description
John 2:13-24 Several thoughts have come to me concerning these verses. I don't want to be critical of the way we sometimes do "church" in this generation. However there are some cautions here for the evangelical Christian believers of today and we need to be conscious of what the Holy Spirit is showing us. "God is not for sale." Church should not simply be a business enterprise. It is so much more than that! In my asking "why do you go to church?" how will YOU answer? We must all examine ourselves and our motives. And how does this tie in to the "world system" in which we live? A lot of what I'm saying today is based on 1Cor 3:16-17. "Do you not know that YOU are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in YOU? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy which temple YOU are. 45min
John 2a 1st Miracle Water Into Wine
Pastor Nelson
John 2:1-12

Description
John 2:1-12 As Jesus starts his ministry his first miracle (of the 35 listed in the Gospels) is the changing of water into wine. There are some really important applications here that can be applied to every Christian's life. The "three steps" taken here by the servants apply to us today and the term FATO (faithful, available, teachable, obedient) that we have mentioned so many times before comes to play in this passage. The question is "Will you just DO IT"? Will you help reveal the deity, power, mercy, control, and peace of God? Do you understand God can start with the ordinary and make something extraordinary out of it? That is you! This first miracle is so profound if we take time to think about it. Read these few verses for yourself, and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you what it should mean in your life. 41min

Description
John 1:39-51 As we read how Jesus gets his first 5 disciples, there are some interesting lessons to be learned. However, we are going to start today's lesson with week 25 and 26 Bible verses. Jude 24 & 25, and 1John 4:9-10. In looking at our 52 Bible verses for the year, sometimes these fall in line with our Scripture studies in the Gospel of John and sometimes they don't. But I do believe they have value in our growth. Anyway, there are some subtle lessons from John's Gospel that we need to pick up today. The big question for the day is: who do you think Jesus is? How closely are you following him? Is your relationship with Him a first priority in life? In this day and age it is hard to imagine these 5 men dropped everything to follow Jesus immediately. Jesus is still saying "come, follow me - you will see greater things than these". Are you willing? 39min PS I have a fantastic, thought-provoking, 7 page article on how amazing & transforming God's GRACE is. It was written by David Bryant a pastor and Christ proclaimer for over the 40 years now. I have read it at least 8 times & each time it has a greater impact on me. John 1:35-38

Description
John 1:35-38 These 3 versus & the question that Jesus immediately asked His first two disciples, "What do you seek?" Is going to open the door for a much deeper discussion & understanding of what being a "Christ follower" is all about. I'm thinking that if Jesus had told them the whole truth right off the bat, i.e. the verses that we are going cover today, they might not have followed Him so readily. I hope you understand it's not about what we want, it's about serving the King of Kings, the Lord of lords with our whole mind, heart, & body. Too many Christians think it's just about what they desire - and that is not the case at all. In fact to be a Christ follower is a costly decision that must not be taken lightly. Too many Americans (and others) don't understand the heavy price that must be paid in order to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Oh but what a glorious reward when one chooses to follow the beloved Son of God! 40min

Now, concerning what John the Baptist had to say about Jesus and His baptism - I pray this subject will be a subject that you will go back and study on your own. It would not be in all four Gospels were it not important. Take your Bible and a little bit of time after listening to this sermon & and discover what the Holy Spirit will teach you personally. 50min

Description
John 1:19-28 With some background information on John the Baptist, hopefully these verses will be even more meaningful. John the Baptist was the last Old Testament prophet, making the way smoother for the introduction of Messiah (Jesus of Nazareth). It is a hard concept, but remember "The Word" (the Son of God) became flesh. Even though the OT prophecies were extremely clear as to what "the Christ" was to be like, very few of the Jews were anticipating what actually took place. There are some good everyday lessons to be learned from these few short sentences. If you're ever tempted to feel indispensable please just remember John the Baptist. I pray this sermon will prepare you for the big reveal that comes next week. 51min

John1:15-18 Today we are going to talk about how the invisible became visible. How John the Baptist starts clearing the way for Jesus, and how the Holy Spirit starts to become a big part of this whole process. You may be wondering why there was a school shooting again this last week, I make a few comments about what the real problem is (a total lack of understanding of who God is & what evil is in the minds of young people). How can people even know what evil does when they don't understand who Jesus is? It is basic, but we need to address what it means to be born again & what proof we have that we are new creations in Christ Jesus. 43min

Description
John 1:14 Here at Calvary Chapel Sheridan, we decided at the beginning of the year to take 52 Scriptures, one each week, and build a solid foundation for the Christian life and illustrate core Christian principles. (These verses are from a John MacArthur study) This is the 19th week of 2018 and as God would arrange it is 2Cor 5:21 which fits in perfectly with this week's sermon (hope you like it). Therefore, I have added in a short little segment on our study verse before the sermon. When we carefully examine the Word of God each word & verse are so important to understand. As you will hear I have picked a number of Scriptures to back up the truths contained in John 1:14. Each of these verses give us a slightly different insight to what our primary verse really means & I pray that this sermon will give you a deeper insight into who Jesus is and encourage you in your Christian walk. 52min

Mark 15:42-16:20 Today as we finish Gospel of Mark, it is a glorious story that needs the other Gospels to fill in a few details so that we can wholely appreciate the complete story of Christ's Resurrection. We will be going to several other scriptures to help you understand how this all fits together in a wonderful way. My prayer for you is that you will take some notes and do some Bible study on your own! The Resurrection is the entire essence of Christianity! You must be able to be clear in your thinking about this concept and all the evidences presented in the Word of God. It is especially important when you are trying to explain your faith to others who may not have come to know our Lord Jesus. Without the Resurrection, Christianity is nothing more than a false hope. I challenge you ... can you clearly and demonstrably explain why you believe that Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ, the One sent to save us? I pray that this lesson and the Scriptures presented will strengthen your faith, and your ability to share with others the hope that is within you. 49min

Mark 15:1-41 Today we look at Jesus's trial before Pilate, then Herod, and then Pilate again. And then what happens to Jesus before He is crucified and dies. There is so much detail given in the four Gospels that if we only combine them we get the real picture. Understanding what was actually happening in real time. I pray this history lesson will come alive for you. Jesus was declared innocent six times in six trials (three Jewish and three Roman) and yet was crucified. Crucifixion is one of the most hideous torturous deaths known to man. So come with me on this discovery of what is in your Bible and understand why Jesus had to suffer this terrible day. YET it was the greatest day in all of man's existence! For it was the day that God gave us away to conquer the punishment for sin in the death penalty. It is also interesting that Jesus so clearly said YES I AM DIETY! I am God. The Messiah you have been awaiting. The Christ. And you very well know it for I have caused the blind to see, the deaf to hear, demons to be cast out, and I have shown My power over nature, and have even generated food for the multitudes, and I have even proven My power over death! Mark 14:43-65 Today we will be looking at the betrayal and arrest of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. What a dramatic scene if we look at all four Gospels for the big picture of what happened that night. I can't imagine what it would've been like for the disciples. Wasn't the Messiah supposed to save the day? I'm sure it was a night of confusion, anxiety, fear, and disappointment. But that is because the disciples did not fully understand Jesus's purpose for coming. Jesus had told them many times what was going to happen but somehow they just didn't hear it.
